Advanced Aquaphobia Coach

Apply Your Knowledge. Assess with Confidence. Coach with Precision.

From Theory to Real-World Application

CTA 2 is the practical progression from CTA 1.

Having completed the 10-hour theoretical foundation, this course focuses on what matters next:

Applying that knowledge to a real aquaphobic person

Delivered as a 4.5–5 hour tutor-led session (online or in person), CTA 2 is a highly interactive, small-group experience designed to build your confidence in assessment, interviewing, and lesson planning.

What You’ll Learn

This course develops your ability to:

·        Conduct a structured ALP induction interview

·        Assess how aquaphobic a client is using a measurable framework

·        Interpret emotional and behavioural responses

·        Apply the ALP Fear Curve to real scenarios

·        Use your findings to create a targeted lesson plan

CTA 2 is about making informed, professional decisions based on real client data and interaction—not just theory.

How the Course Works

Practical, Role-Based Learning

You’ll work in pairs using real case studies, taking turns to:

·        Act as the aquaphobic client

·        Act as the coach conducting the interview and assessment

This immersive approach builds both empathy and accuracy, helping you understand how clients think, feel, and respond.

The ALP P.A.R Assessment (25 Questions)

A key part of the course is learning how to use the P.A.R system, developed with the University of Chichester.

You will:

·        Ask structured questions

·        Analyse responses

·        Generate a percentage score of aquaphobia

This gives you a clear, objective starting point for planning.

Applying the Fear Curve

You’ll identify where your client sits on the ALP Fear Curve, allowing you to:

·        Understand triggers and limitations

·        Adjust your coaching approach

·        Plan safe, progressive sessions

Assessment & Certification

CTA 2 requires you to demonstrate real competency using the official IOA online system.

You must complete:

·        One real-life case study

·        One P.A.R assessment (25 questions)

·        One lesson plan based on that client

All work is submitted via the IOA Coaches Database using approved templates, ensuring your ability to apply learning in a real-world setting.

Who It’s For

·        CTA 1 qualified swimming teachers

·        Coaches working with nervous or non-swimmers

·        Professionals wanting to specialise in aquaphobia
